2006 Financial Planning Grant From CFP Board

The Friends of The Finance Academy (FOFA) was awarded a $7,000 grant from the Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards. The grant is to educate individuals in the Pine Bush area. A description of the project is below.

Description of Project

The project will seek to assist and educate individuals in the Pine Bush area about certain aspects of the financial planning process that have in the past only been available to upper income individuals. A portion of the grant money will be utilized to survey the population in order to determine the needs of the community. Once the needs are properly identified, a program will be designed to begin addressing those needs. Seminars will be designed to cover specific topics as identified by the survey. Power Point presentations, informational booklets and other financial planning literature will be utilized. The crucial part of the project is the involvement of the Academy of Finance students in each phase of the project. The students will be assisting in the preparation of the survey, seminars, literature and all other facets under the supervision of the professional volunteer staff . The goal is to educate the population about the financial planning process and to demonstrate that education, even at the high school level, can benefit our community.

Other goals include the tangible demonstration of competent and ethical financial education to both the Academy of Finance students and to a traditionally underserved population. This grant may also encourage some students to consider financial planning as a career. We believe that this will   help both the students and the individuals who avail themselves of the process, and will fit in well with the stated goals of the CFP Board.
